The Struggles of Being an Everyday Content Creator: Breaking Down the Challenges and Injustice

Hello, my amazing people! I hope you’re all having a wonderful afternoon. Sometimes, I find myself lost in my thoughts, imagining different scenarios and wondering how we’re all navigating life. Today, I want to take a moment to talk to you about something that’s been on my mind — the journey of being a content creator in this digital age, especially when you’re not a celebrity or influencer with all the resources to back you up.

The Reality of Being an Everyday Influencer

Being an influencer isn’t as easy as it may seem. Everywhere you look, there are videos and posts telling you how anyone can do it. But the truth is, the doors are often closed to those of us who don’t have the right connections or resources. I’ve been on this journey for a while now, creating content because I love it. But I’ll be honest — it’s hard. There’s no money coming in yet, and at times, it feels like I’m putting all my energy into something that doesn’t seem to be moving forward.

The Struggle of Getting Recognized

One of the most frustrating parts of being an everyday creator is the sense of being overlooked. You see celebrities and well-known influencers getting all the opportunities — they have social media managers, PR teams, and all the resources to succeed. Meanwhile, content creators like myself are left trying to build things from the ground up, often without guidance or support.

The Unfair Standards

When you’re just starting out, every video, every post, feels like a risk. The rules seem constantly changing. One minute, your video is flagged for inappropriate content, the next, you see other creators doing the same thing without facing any consequences. It’s incredibly disheartening to know that your hard work can be dismissed or taken down without warning, while others get a pass simply because they have a bigger following.

I once covered the tragic story of Shanquella Robinson, a young woman who lost her life under mysterious circumstances. The video gained significant attention, nearing one million views. Then, suddenly, it was taken down for allegedly promoting violence, despite containing no graphic content—just me narrating the events. Meanwhile, other creators covering the same story had no issues. It made me wonder: Is it because I’m a woman of color? Is it because I don’t have connections in the industry?

The Heartbreaking Reality of Losing It All

Platforms like YouTube can take down your channel without warning, and once it’s gone, it’s gone. You can’t even start fresh. This is especially difficult for those of us who pour countless hours into creating content and building a community. The worst part? If you lose your channel, there’s a good chance you won’t get another chance to start over. And with it, your memories and all that hard work vanish.

For many young creators, this loss is devastating—not just financially, but mentally. Imagine putting years of effort into something, only to have it ripped away with no explanation. For some, this kind of rejection can lead to depression and anxiety.

The Financial Struggles

As a single parent with limited funds, I don’t have the resources to hire lawyers, social media managers, or pay for all the expensive programs some creators rely on. The system is stacked against everyday creators, and it often feels like you’re being taken advantage of, with no one to protect your intellectual property.

The Lack of Support for Everyday Creators

It’s frustrating when platforms like YouTube treat everyday people like they don’t matter, while big influencers get leeway to make mistakes. What about the rest of us? Our voices deserve to be heard, too. Yet, we’re penalized for things that others get away with.

The emotional toll is real. Losing a channel is more than just losing content—it’s the loss of everything you’ve worked for. And when you have no one to turn to, it can feel incredibly isolating.

The Search for Alternatives

I’ve recently heard about a platform called Rumble, which seems to offer a more supportive environment for creators, without the harsh penalties for using music or speaking freely. However, finding success there isn’t without its challenges. It’s difficult to gain visibility on Rumble, especially with Google and other search engines prioritizing YouTube.

Seeking Solutions and Finding Hope

Despite these obstacles, I find solace in the unwavering support of my loyal followers. Knowing that there are individuals who actively seek out my content, regardless of the platform, is incredibly uplifting. Their encouragement serves as a beacon of hope, reminding me why I began this journey.

However, systemic changes are necessary. Platforms should consider implementing:

Clearer Guidelines: Providing transparent and consistent content policies to help creators understand expectations and avoid unintentional violations.

Support Systems: Establishing accessible support channels for creators to appeal decisions and seek guidance.

Mental Health Resources: Offering resources to help creators manage the unique stresses associated with content creation.

By addressing these areas, platforms can foster a more equitable environment where all creators have the opportunity to thrive.

A Call for Empathy and Change

I share my story not to elicit sympathy but to shed light on the realities many content creators face. It’s essential for platforms and audiences alike to recognize the emotional and mental challenges inherent in this field. By fostering a more supportive and understanding community, we can ensure that creators are valued not just for their content, but for their humanity.

To My Fellow Creators:

Whether you’re on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or any other platform — I want you to know you’re not alone. I see you, I support you, and I understand the struggles you face. It’s time for a change, and together, we can make our voices heard. Keep pushing forward, because your hard work matters.
